Hello, I am Sami and welcome to my blog. For a few weeks now, I have been feeling some really big "growth spurts" inside of me. I am 30 something wife, mom/stepmom who has always put her children first. As of this year one of our sons will become an adult, two of our children will become teens and one will become a preteen. While I will continue to make my children a priority I must put my husband and our marriage first. I will also focus on bringing the woman within me out. I look forward to this new chapter in my life in order to watch our children grow into responsible adults, to love and cherish my husband and to be the beautiful, confident woman God created. Please join me in my journey and always feel free to comment, offer advise, or just say hello!
Hi Sami .. good to be back from Africa and love your site

Thanks for the no snow prayers! Not a flake fell from the sky overnight! Wahooo! It snowed briefly around 9:30 this morning but was a real fine snowfall and the temperatures were so warm that it melted as it hit the ground. The sun is now brightly shining and I really do not think we will get anything at all! Yeahhhhh! Can you tell I have a serious case of cabin fever? I cannot wait for spring to get here!
I feel a little better about Mike today. I am learning that there are some of those children you just have to let them walk before they can run. It just seems so defeating after all the effort you put into parenting and to guide your child towards the right path and they end up taking the one that will cause heartache and hardships. I took some time yesterday to talk to a co-worker. He told me about how his stepdaughter was a honor student all through high school and had received numerous scholarships to colleges, some in excess of $60,000!!! She turned 18 at the beginning of May and the night of her graduation party she told her parents that she secretively got married the week before and was going to Germany with her husband that was in the military. Talk about a blow! He proceeds to tell me 6 months later she calls them and tells them that her marriage is not working out and that she wants to come home. So they are thinking....good, she can still save her life. Once she gets home she meets another guy and gets pregnant!!! Today she is now 21, married to the guy she had the baby with and is a year away from finishing her master's degree. I know he is a smart kid and has alot to offer....he just has to see that for himself and that may take him a while.
They boys were over last night and everyone finished their homework early. It was so nice! We went out to dinner and then came back home to watch the KU/K State game. Unfortunately KU lost their first game last night. K State had not won a game against KU since 1984 so that was a big deal for them. But with the tournaments coming up we figured KU needed a loss in order to get focused for that. AJ's back was hurting .... apparently he fell in basketball practice on Tuesday night and that made some muscles sore. It also made him in a real grumpy mood. He and Hylari got into an argument and AJ told her that he would never love her in a million years unless she was his REAL sister. That really ticked me off. I am going to work on some family bonding because I am not going to allow any of our kids to talk to each other like that. It is always something........never a dull moment in the McDowell household.
Tonight Brock's Science project will be on display at the school so we will go pick the boys up and look at his and the other projects and take some pictures. Brock will be presenting his project in class today. We talked about his presentation again last night. I hope he does as well at school as he has done at home.
I have spent the day today working on our Business Continuity Plan at work. I am the Primary representative for my department so I have to update our plan once a quarter, attend meetings and round table exercises. I had to kill a tree in order to print off 5 copies of our plan. Poor tree! The thing is when all of us BC planners meet we always talk about the fact of IF there was a true disaster our associates are going to worry about their families FIRST not our work place.
I hear President Bush is coming to KC tomorrow. I am sure there are many Kansascitians that are excited and honored that he is coming but I hate it. Only for selfish reasons though. The whole town shuts down. They shut down the highways and over passes......you can't get anywhere! Who does he think he is??? LOL. I am sure it will be fine. I just wish G.W. would call me first to find out where I needed to go so that the roads I need to use could remain open. I don't think I am asking for too much.
Have a great day!
