Hello, I am Sami and welcome to my blog. For a few weeks now, I have been feeling some really big "growth spurts" inside of me. I am 30 something wife, mom/stepmom who has always put her children first. As of this year one of our sons will become an adult, two of our children will become teens and one will become a preteen. While I will continue to make my children a priority I must put my husband and our marriage first. I will also focus on bringing the woman within me out. I look forward to this new chapter in my life in order to watch our children grow into responsible adults, to love and cherish my husband and to be the beautiful, confident woman God created. Please join me in my journey and always feel free to comment, offer advise, or just say hello!
Hi Sami .. good to be back from Africa and love your site
I will have to make this fairly quick today. This being me and my boss is for the tweet tweets (birds).
So yesterday my boss's boss came up to me and asked me to get a message to my boss to have her call him. I asked him if I could help him with something and he told me that he needed to talk to her directly. For crying out loud....she is on her FIRST official day off from work, in SWITZERLAND, trying to ENJOY her vacation and he wants me to call her!!! Uuuuugh! My boss is a sweetheart so I know she wouldn't mind but it is the whole prinicple of the matter. She is on a once in a lifetime trip and we need to already call her on her first day off??? My boss had left me her flight itineriaries and hotel information so I proceeded to call the hotel in order to leave a message for her to call work. Let me just say...in the US the hotel industry is where you will find some of the most pleasant people who will go out of their way in order to make the customer happy. Not so much in Switzerland. The man that answered the hotel phone was completely rude! I asked to leave a message for my boss and he said, "Lady, I am on the phone. You are just going to have to wait!" Well! Well! Well! So much for my first impressions of Hotel Perren in Zermatt. He comes back to the phone and starts to take my message and then asks, "Lady, why not you call her directly, yes?" Duh! If I had her direct number wouldn't I have done that? I guess he was completely irritated by having to take my call that he handed it to someone else. The next person I talked to was very polite. In fact, I told him who I was trying to leave a message for and he tells me that she is standing there at the guest desk. The dork who originally answered the phone could have saved himself some frustration if he would have listened to me instead of being so concerned in schooling me on "Calling the person directly 101". So I got to talk to my boss for a few minutes which was nice. I felt bad for her. I could tell she was thinking "what does her boss think she is going to do about something when she is out of the country?" I hope it all got cleared up and that she can enjoy the rest of her vacation.
I spent most of my evening doing PTA work. I am always amazed at how difficult it is to get parents to be involved with their childrens school. I think parents are going to think way too much is going to be asked of them and that is certainly not the case. In fact after elementary school there is really so little to do that I often feel like I am not doing enough. I also see how it makes my own daughter so proud and get invovled with school activities because she sees me do it. I notice this with other fellow PTA members children as well. I also have developed some wonderful friendships with some people in PTA that I probably would have not met if I were not involved. You also get to find out about events, etc. way in advance by attending the meetings so your calendar is always cleared for those types of things instead of them hitting you the week before. I know it is not for everyone and I am not putting down anyone that isn't invovled. Right now as I am working on the nominatting committee for next school year it think how incredibly sad it is out of 500 students we have 2 parents who have signed up to be on the PTSA next year. That is myself and another board member from this school year. Our kids are in middle school where we need to make the most positive influence on them and no one wants to be involved. We will make it one way or another. I give praise to those parents who do take the time to be involved. Even if it is sending a bag of candy into school or cutting out shapes for teachers or organzing an event. It takes us all and our kids notice more than you know!
I signed up Hylari, Brock, and AJ for an internet safety class that will take place in March. We talk to our kids about internet safety all the time but we get the rolling of the eyes because of course they think we do not know what we are talking about. A local police officer is going to conduct the class so perhaps coming from her our kids will see what we truly mean about the dangers of the internet.
If the weather stays nice Hylari and I are going to have a date night tonight and will go out for chinese. We are supposed to receive a dusting of snow today and then a significant amount on Thursday. It was 55 degrees out this morning at 7:00AM and by 8:00AM it was down to 37 so I would say something is heading our way. I am so sick of winter! This has been an incredibly long winter. I hope when spring and summer gets here it is hot as can be! I love warm!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day!
