Words throughout my house

  • Mood:
  • Pray for: Our troops
  • Days until vacation: Bake something for your neighbor.

I am in a better mood today.  Not much got resolved about the "sports" issue.  My husband did admit he watches an accessive amount of sports and will "try" to not watch as much.  He has said that numerous times before.  I guess all I can do is see if he is going to be true to his word.

I cannot wait for the weekend as it is supposed to be in the high 50's.  It has been so cold lately that we still have alot of snow and many roads, sidewalks, and driveways are pure ice.  I am thinking with the weather getting so warm alot of it will melt off.

I think I am going to get together with a friend of mine on Sunday and we are going to make some crafts.  We had planned on doing them a while back before we started getting bombarded with snow and ice which made it impossible to get out and about.  They are Christmas crafts so we will have them for next year.

A week or so ago I took as many pictures as I could (before I overloaded my flickr account) of all the things in my house that has words or sayings on them.  I have alot of them.  Words mean alot to me and I love having them around my home.  Here are a few:

This is the first thing you see when you walk into my house.  I love stars so what could be better than a huge one?  One day I was watching an Organizing show and they had created a station at the front door with a Grand Central Station sign above it.  I loved the idea because someone is always coming and going in our house so why not call my entry "Grand Central Station".  I can't remember the name of the lady who made my sign but she sells them on ebay.  I think I searched "wood signs".  She does a FANTASTIC job.  I would shop from her again!

I love this sign as well.  I remember when Hylari was a child I used to tell her (and I still do) that Momma loves her always and forever, no matter what.  Hylari used to say back to me, "Momma...I always love you always NOOOOOOOO matter what, I always love you". She would shake her little head back and forth as she was saying the NOOOOOOO.  It was absolutely adorable.  The same lady from ebay that made my Grand Central sign made this sign.

I love making my house a home so I thought this all fit in real nicely. I always want our kids to know that they came from a loving home.

I move this little sign around to various places in our house.  Right now it is down by the front door so everyone sees it coming and going.

This actually looks like a litte suitcase.

This is the back of an amoire that holds my husband PC.  It sits in our living room and the back faces an opening in the kitchen.  In order to block all the cables I have pictures of the kids sitting on easles (is that how you spell it?) and then have a Live, Laugh, and Love suitcase and a wishes box.  The lined basket behind the wishes box holds all of our bills, stamps, calculator etc.

This is a big hat box that says Home Sweet Home on it.  When I seen it I had to have it.  It sits on top of my kitchen cabinets.

These little boxes sit above my cabinets as well.  As you can see I still have some wallpaper to tear down in my kitchen.  This is in an area that I cannot reach so I am trying to figure out how I can get to it.  I have a built in stove and the refrigerator to contend with.  Once I get the new kitchen floor put in and the bathroom painted....getting this remaining wallpaper down is the next job on my list. Look at those two patterns on the wall paper and border.....however did the previous homeowner think that stuff matched????

Also above my cabinets.  I should have taken a picture of all my decor that I have on my cabinets so that you can see how it all goes together.  Once I get that remaining wallpaper down and get that area painted I will take some pictures of all of that.

This is hanging in the kitchen window that opens up to the sunroom.

My little May God Bless You angel hangs on my fridge.  The little sign that has all the days of the week on it is my guide for Hylari's breakfasts each morning and then there is a section for her to see what she should have for a snack after school.  I love being organized!

Here is a picture of my living room.  I painted it three times before I decided on the color. This is Laura Ashley's Antique Gold.  I also pulled up the carpet in order to expose the beautiful hardwood floors.  I still need to pull up the carpet underneath the couch and my husbands PC armoire.  We can only take things to the dump once a month between April and October.  I had pulled the most of the carpet up right before the dump closed for the year so I am waiting to get the rest once it opens this spring.  You can't tell in this picture but we added white crown molding and will be swamping out the stained baseboard with white baseboard.  The trim around the window will be replaced with white as well.  The big black area you see at the bottom of the couch is because there is another section of the couch that goes on there that we have to take off in order to have our Christmas tree up.  I have it in my sunroom and will probably leave it there.

This is the view into the kitchen from the living room

Just another view.  You can see the carpet that I have to rip out from under the armoire.  It is going to be alot of work because that airmoire is so heavy with all the computr stuff in it.  I wish I had before pictures.....there is already an amazing difference in this room.

Well I better go for now.  We are having a going away social after work today for the guy that is leaving my department so I think we are going to head out a little earlier than usual.

Have a great weekend!

Awwwwwwww, I REALLY LOVE your signs!!! I LOVE signs too and always admire them at the stores but never got one. I almost bought a "family" one like your "home" . My favorite of yours forever for always no matter what. LOVE It & the story you have about your daughter. Awwww. I also like that grand central station. And thanks for sharing your wall color, I really like that color!!!! Its so warm and cheery. One of these days I will test out my painting in the bathroom first. ha ha! Hey your wallpaper makes me laugh to think someone matched that. I mean its not bad but well you know, its not the same print. har har. Your floors look gorgeous by the way. And gosh, what a HUGE TV you have!!! No wonder your hubby enjoys watching sports, he has a huge screen..! Have a great weekend & stay warm. Weather here was horrible, winds up to 71 miles per hour! 2 houses behind us had their backyard fences blow over! Several of our plants fell over and one of our younger trees nearly broke in half! thankfully, our fence was strong enough to withstand the winds.

Hey Sami! Thanks for sharing- glad to hear peace is settling back down in your home.
All the signs are really fun! I love words, too. I'd like to do a saying ON the way somewhere- you can order those rub off things.
I also really like the Laura Ashley color- it's soft and warm but not too "yellowy".
I am toying with painting my living room red!!

Hi Sami, Happy New Year.

After you said the thing about the sign, I thought I wonder if I have any words hanging. The answer is no, I do however have lots of pictures, and really want more. I also have a lot of nature things, flower pictures, wood, other outdoor pictures, family pictures etc. That's primarily what my decor is. I like the words, and how you decorated the house. The floors are pretty.
