All packaged up in a weekend

  • Mood:
  • Pray for: Marriages

We got up early Saturday to head out for Mike's game. I couldn't talk my husband into going to the high school before heading to the opposing teams stadium.  He thought it would "jinx" them since we had never done something like that before.  Once again this high school had a very nice stadium. I almost feel bad for our kids because the stadiums at their schools are nothing like some of the ones we visited this year.  We are talking college quality.  It is very nice that the school districts invest the money into nice stadiums.  Just as we suspected playing against the Wildcats was going to be a difficult game.  Our Eagles met them score for score during the first quarter and at half time the score was 21-15 Wildcats.  We still held out hope.  At half time my husband went to get all of us lunch from the concession stands.  Brock and I waited in the stands and the old man sitting next to us decided he was going to go home.  Brock and I stood up and walked out to the staircase since I didn't think the old man would be able to walk in front of us.  As we returned to our seats I noticed that he (the old man) kicked over Brock's drink and spilled it all.  My husband was already gone to get new drinks and food but I told him Brock didn't need any since he had only taken a sip out of his first one.  My husband returned and I told him what happened and Brock and I decided we would share a drink.  Not 20 minutes later the lady in front of us, who her and her husband came in tote with stadium chairs, stood up and as she did her stadium chair flew back and spilled my drink.  She looked at me and said, "I spilled your drink" and went on about her merry way.  I thought it was awful rude of her to not even offer to go buy me another drink.  If it was me I would have insisted on replacing someones drink if I spilled it.  I had to get that off my shoulders because it really ticked me off.  Now back to the game.  The Wildcats scored again in the third and both teams scored in the fourth but it was not enough for the Eagles to bring home a victory.  We ended the season 12-1, which was not bad at all.  My husband was impressed with the quarterback from the Wildcats especially since he has already signed to go play football at KU...which is one of "his teams".  The Wildcats are a very good team and we wish them well in state.  In the last 30 seconds of the game the Wildcats football program asked for a standing ovation for our Eagles and their season which was incredibly nice for them to do.   After the game we drove to Mike's high school to wait for the bus to arrive and pick him up.  There were 3 other families waiting and we all cheered for their season as they exited the bus.  They seemed like they were in pretty good spirits.  They have alot to be proud of.  Oh and our cheerleaders showed up during right after half time and they took 2nd in state competition!  Mike talked about the game on the way home and didn't mention it for the rest of the weekend.

On Sunday morning Hylari woke up like a grumpy old bear and ended up getting grounded over something as piddly as the size of spoon she was going to eat her breakfast with.  She threw the little spoon and said she wasn't eating breakfast if she had to use a little spoon, stomped off to her room and slammed her door.  She is now grounded from TV, computer, and her stereo.  She is going to learn that her outbursts do nothing good for her at all.  I cooked from 10:00AM until about 2:00PM when we sat down for lunch.  Everything was so yummy!  The only thing that wasn't ready was the jello salad. I was going to make it late Saturday night and decided against it since I had already made 2 pumpkin pies and sugar cookies.  Wrong decision!  I always mess up any jello recipe I make because I do not allow for the adequate time for it to set up.  It is sad....I can't make jello!  I also used the ready made pie crusts which is something I will never do again.  The pie crust stuck to the bottom of the pan.  When I write up my Thanksgiving debriefing for 2007 I will certainly note that.  As well...I have to figure out a way to hold my dinner on a day that there is no football.  Let me explain.  Growing up my mother was addicted to sports.  We had a tv in our kitchen and there was always some sort of sports game on while we ate dinner.  Dinner was not a time to share your thoughts in our home.  My sister and I both refuse to have a TV in our kitchens/dining rooms for that reason.  If you cannot give up TV for 20-30 minutes a day and enjoy your families company while you eat a meal than to me your priorities are messed up.  My dinner happened to be ready in the middle of the Chiefs game on Sunday.  I went into the living room and turned the TV on mute and then returned to the kitchen and asked my husband to say a blessing.  After we blessed the food and the sides started going around my husband asked, "What happened to my game?"  I told him I turned it on mute while we ate.  He asked if he could turn the volume up so that he could hear it.  I wasn't going to argue with him because I knew I couldn't win.  We sat there eating and when he heard the crowd cheering he would "shhhh!" everyone so that he could hear the announcer.  I thought it was rude and I told him next year I would cook the meal on a day when football wasn't on.  I just do not get the obession with sports.  The same thing will happen when we go to my Aunt and Uncles on Thanksgiving day.  Everyone will be sitting in front of the TV watching the "Thanksgiving Edition of Football".  Uuuuugh!  At least it is not like last year.  Last year the Chiefs played on Thanksgiving day ..... we had to rearrange our family traditions so that they all could go to the game.  Which reminds me of something else.  This coming Saturday is a big college football game at the Chiefs stadium .... it is Missouri University vs. Kansas University.  Big time rivals!  Anyhoo....the game is sold out and has been for some time.  Tickets are being scalped around the area for anywhere between $300-1000 a seat!!!  On the news they had a story about where since the game is on a Saturday night that people who have had their weddings planned are now being told their guests and attendants will not be showing up for the wedding!!!!!  For a stupid football game????????  People get your priorities straight!  I promise you can get the highlights for FREE (and not have to pay $500 for a seat) on the 10:00 news!

Our weather is incredibly crazy right now.  It is warm for a few days then freezing cold for a day or two and then back to warm again.  Usually by this time of the year it should be consistently cold.  It ended up being 70 degrees during Mike's game on Saturday!!!  It is going to be 70 today (Monday), mid 60's tomorrow (Tuesday) and then is supposed to snow on Wednesday.  Good grief!  I went ahead and took down my Thanksgiving and Fall decor last night and put up my Christmas outdoor decorations since the weather guy says after Wednesday it is going to be cold for at least 14 days in a row.  I also had my husband bring in all the Christmas decorations from the storage shed in case it does snow we do not have problems getting it all inside.

Have a great day!

I, like you, do NOT get the whole sports obsession thing. BOORRRRRIIIINNNGGGG!!!!
No WAY would sports interfere with a dinner I had slaved over. I think I would tell the offending party(ies) to please take their plates to the other room and let those who would prefer to enjoy a meal together without sports interference to do so IN PEACE!!!!

glitter-graphics.com Hi Sammi, Good Job to Mike & his team for doing a great job and trying their best. They sound like a great team w/lots to be proud of. As for the stadiums of the other schools, thats how I feel sometimes when we visit other grade schools for basketball and volleyball tournaments. Their gymnasiums are so new and modern compared to our old raggedy gym. I guess some some schools just have more money than others and maybe budget better. Our school, we worked on getting a new kitchen this year, still not done, but already spend $53 thousand from our budget. Mind you, this is all from tuition and donations. We get nothing from the state. Anyway, as for your drink I would have been mad about that. If I spilled someones drink, I am like you, I certainly would have offered to buy a new one. Some people...grrr. As for the ticket costs, I cannot believe how much people spend for games! No wonder those sports athletes make millions! I would never pay that amt and would rather watch it on TV. But then again, Im not a big sports buff. During game times, I'd rather be at the stores not big dept stores but more like Michaels, Target, book stores, dollar stores, etc. heheh. Your daughter Hylari and my Alyssa sounds the same. They get so moody and throw tantrums over any thing. Aly has not been on the computer for exactly ONE MONTH yesterday! She was grounded because she went on when she was not supposed to go on the internet. Drama Drama. So she has not been on for that long. I am amazed that she only had a breakdown about it once in this month. Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog and really glad you are back..take care!
